Shortage of coal reduces the production of pig iron.

The shortage of coal decreased by 67% the production of the steel industry of Mato Grosso do Sul - 820 thousand tons of pig iron, which is the installed capacity to 270 thousand tons / year. The two activities also bemoan the reflections of the economic crisis that began in the United States in September 2008. The lower production of steel is related to a problem that the coal sector is still trying to shake: the migration of labor, mainly for construction.

The industry produce 130 cubic meters of coal a month, 35% below the demand of the industry - from 200 thousand cubic meters per month. As the president of the Union of Producers of Industries and Charcoal Mato Grosso do Sul (Sindicarv), Marcos Brito, the coal sector has improved the signal from the second half of 2010, but still feels the repercussions of the crisis.

  1. The call to reduce the use of coals is valid for western countries but unfortunately, coal reports show developing economies are more likely to increase their use of metallurgical coal in coming years because of its affordability and to meet increasing demands for electricity and steel for the coal industry. www.coalportal.com
